Woman charged after burning bystander with a lighter

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman who allegedly used a lighter to burn someone during a disturbance in Chatham.

Police said they got the call to Grand Avenue East near James Street on Friday, September 27, adding that their investigation showed a woman got into an argument with several people before she assaulted a man there.

Officers said the woman also allegedly used a lighter to burn a bystander who tried to intervene.

The woman was arrested shortly before 9 a.m. Monday and taken to police headquarters where she was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

She was charged with two counts of assault and one count of assault with a weapon.

Dresden man wanted by police turns up at Wallaceburg police station

A 28-year-old Dresden man who went to pick up some personal belongings from the police station in Wallaceburg got more than he bargained for Monday afternoon.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested him because he was wanted in connection with an assault investigation from the weekend.

Police said the man allegedly sprayed someone with bear mace Saturday afternoon and then took off before police arrived.

Officers were able to obtain a warrant for his arrest and took him into custody when he showed up at the Wallaceburg station just before 2:30 Monday afternoon.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

The man is charged with two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to an order and one count each of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, and administering a noxious thing.

Man allegedly pepper sprays someone who wanted to talk about his parking

A 24-year-old Windsor man is facing a pair of charges after he allegedly pepper sprayed someone who was trying to talk to him about where he had parked outside of a business in Chatham.

CK police said they were called to the scene at a parking lot on McNaughton Avenue West shortly after 8 p.m. on September 19.

The driver allegedly took off before police arrived, but they were able to identify him with the help of some video surveillance of the area.

The OPP notified CK police shortly after 1:15 a.m. Tuesday that they had the man in custody and he was taken to CK police headquarters in Chatham.

The man was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Two-vehicle crash on Longwoods Road under investigation

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a two-vehicle collision that took place on Longwoods Road just west of Louisville Tuesday morning.

Few details are available at this time as the incident is still an open investigation, but both vehicles were set to be towed from the scene.

As of 11 a.m. on Tuesday, there was no word on any injuries.

Vehicle stolen in Chatham found after crash on Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation

Middlesex OPP said they found a vehicle that was reported stolen in Chatham while they were responding to a crash on Townline Road in Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation.

OPP said they were called to the scene along with Oneida Nation Police and the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Police shortly before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24.

Police said their investigation showed that the driver collided with a parked vehicle and then drove off before police arrived.

Officers found the vehicle a short distance away and arrested the driver after initiating a traffic stop.

As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation resident was charged with dangerous driving, failing or refusing to comply with a demand, and possession of stolen property.

The accused was later released from custody with a future court date.

Chatham woman charged after allegedly driving vehicle into Highway 401 ditch while impaired

A 23-year-old Chatham woman is facing a couple of impaired driving charges.

Early in the morning on Sept. 28, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received reports of a vehicle in a ditch off of Highway 401 in the London area.

After arriving, they arrested the driver who allegedly consumed alcohol before getting behind the wheel.

She's since been released from police custody and is scheduled to make a court appearance on Oct. 24, 2024.
