Public meeting to discuss recently discovered well in Wheatley

The discovery of a potential petroleum well in Wheatley has prompted a public meeting to keep the community informed.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent sent out a notice Monday evening saying that it will be hosting the community open house for Wheatley residents from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24 at the Wheatley Village Resource Centre.

Municipal representatives and consultants will be at the meeting to explain technical details and answer any questions.

The materials will be posted on the Let's Talk Chatham-Kent Wheatley Emergency Webpage as well for people who cannot make it out Tuesday afternoon.

Municipal officials said part of the conversation will include the plans they have for bringing in a drill to investigate the well.

Officials said there will be a lot more light and noise at the site as a result of the drilling operations, which will take place 24 hours per day seven days per week.
