Baseball lovers, history buffs, and Chatham-Kent residents are all invited to Fergie Jenkins Field on Saturday for the fourth 'Field of Honour' charity baseball game.
The event, which started in 2021, celebrates the legacy of the Chatham Coloured All-Stars and Black baseball in Canada.
"We got it started four years ago and we want to keep it going," one of the organizers, Brock Greenhalgh said.
He added that it's not just present-day locals who get excited for 'The Field of Honour,' the families of players and coaches from All-Stars teams in the 30s and 40s look forward to the event.
"It's like 'old home week' for the families when they get back together and a lot of people travel a great distance to come and be a part of this," he said. "It's a great way to get everybody back together and celebrate something that all people from Chatham should be proud of."
First pitch for those over the age of 45 event is at 11 a.m., that's followed by the youth game at 12:30 p.m., and the game for those aged 16-44 starts at 2 p.m., but with doors opening at 10 a.m. fans are encouraged to get to the field as early as possible.
"It's a cash donation to get in," Greenhalgh explained, adding that Chatham Coloured All-Stars merchandise will be available.
There will also be a silent auction on the day, with jerseys and signed items from former MLB players Fergie Jenkins and Miguel Cabrera.
All the money raised goes to the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society.
"It's a great way to spend a Saturday," Greenhalgh said.
