Wanted Chatham man tries to get away on a bicycle

Chatham-Kent police have caught up with a Chatham man who was wanted in connection with a handful of thefts involving thousands of dollars worth of stolen property.

Police said they found him while they were investigating a disturbance on Talbot Street East in Blenheim just before 7 p.m. Monday.

Officers said the report they got was that a man and a woman were arguing there and when police arrived, they allegedly saw the man trying to flee the scene on a bicycle.

Police said he was arrested a short distance away, at which point they were also able to confirm that he was wanted in connection with some other investigations.

The 21-year-old Chatham man is charged with ten counts of possession of stolen property (five over $5,000 and five under $5,000) along with five counts of theft, one count of flight from police, and one count of dangerous driving.

He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Argument in a vehicle leads to assault, man's arrest

A 34-year-old Wallaceburg man is spending at least the next couple of days behind bars after he allegedly assaulted a woman he wasn't supposed to be contacting in the first place.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested him after they were called in for a dispute on Centre Side Road in Chatham Township shortly after 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Officers said their investigation showed that a man and a woman had been arguing while they were in a vehicle and that the man allegedly assaulted the woman when she tried to call police.

Police said she was eventually able to get out of the vehicle and contact law enforcement.

Investigators said they learned that the man had previously been released with a conditional sentence order that required him to stop associating with the woman, so he was arrested and taken to police headquarters -- he was also charged with two counts of assault.

As a result of his bail hearing, the man was transferred to the Southwest Regional Detention Centre pending his next court appearance, which is scheduled for September 19.

Three arrests on outstanding warrants

Chatham-Kent police have rounded up another handful of people who made the wanted list locally.

Police said a woman who was wanted by OPP made it easy for officers to track her down when she showed up at the courthouse on Grand Avenue West in Chatham for a separate matter shortly after 10:15 a.m. Monday.

She was arrested and later released to OPP custody.

A 34-year-old Chatham woman who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for a drug investigation from August also showed up at the courthouse in Chatham Monday morning.

She arrived there shortly after 11:30 a.m. and was arrested in connection with the case before she was later released with a future court date.

She is currently charged with two counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of drug possession, and one count of possession of stolen property.

A third woman who was wanted on an outstanding warrant was also arrested in Chatham-Kent on Monday.

CK police said they picked up the 40-year-old Chatham-Kent woman on Chestnut Drive in Wallaceburg just before 12:30 p.m. Monday while they were investigating a disturbance.

Officers said the woman was wanted in connection with a bail violation investigation from January of this year.

She is currently facing several charges including failing to attend court, assault, and uttering threats.
