Four people arrested for skipping court dates in CK
Chatham-Kent police were busy catching strays on Sunday.
They arrested four people who were all wanted for skipping their scheduled court appearances.
The first arrest involved a man who was previously arrested in an assault investigation in Chatham is in more trouble with the law after he allegedly skipped a scheduled court date.
Chatham-Kent police said the man was arrested in February and charged with assault before he was released with conditions and a court date.
Officers said a warrant was issued for his arrest after he missed a scheduled appearance in the case.
Police said the man turned himself in at police headquarters shortly after 8 a.m. on Sunday and was released with a future court date.
He is currently charged with two counts of assault and one count of uttering threats.
In the second case, the law came calling again for a man who was arrested in connection with a drug bust in Blenheim last fall and then allegedly failed to show up for court.
CK police said they found him Sunday morning on Thames Street in Chatham.
He was initially arrested in connection with a search warrant that was issued at a property on Regent Street in Blenheim in November 2023.
After his arrest Sunday morning, the man was taken to police headquarters and was later released by the court with a future court appearance notice.
He is currently facing several charges including drug and weapons-related offences.
In the third case, officers said they were able to cross off another name from their wanted list when they caught up with a man on Baxter Street in Chatham just after 3 p.m. Sunday who was wanted for skipping a scheduled court appearance in connection with an assault investigation going back to May 2023.
Police said he was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
He is currently charged with two counts of forcible confinement along with one count each of assault and failing to attend court.
And finally, in the fourth case, police arrested a man who was wanted for skipping a scheduled court ppearance in connection with a breach of probation investigation that started at the beginning of last month.
Officers said a warrant was issued for the man's arrest after he failed to show up for court, adding that an officer found him walking in the area of Thames Street and Dover Street in Chatham shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday and arrested him.
The man was later released with a future court date and is currently charged with failing to comply with a probation order.

Traffic complaint on Hwy 401 leads to impaired driving arrest
Provincial police in Chatham-Kent are giving a shout-out to a tipster who called in a suspected impaired driver on the Highway 401 recently.
OPP said because of that tip, they were able to track down the suspect vehicle shortly before 3 p.m. on Friday on the westbound Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent between the Kent Bridge Road and Highway 40 exits.
Officers said while they were speaking with the driver, they saw signs of impairment, so they completed a roadside test and then took the driver back to Chatham-Kent police headquarters for further testing.
A 30-year-old man from Cambridge was later charged with impaired driving (blood alcohol 80mg plus) and impaired driving (impaired by alcohol and drugs).
His driver's license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was set to be impounded for seven days as a result of the charges.
