'Gesture' lands man back in police custody
A 48-year-old Chatham man is spending some time in a holding cell after he allegedly made a gesture toward a victim -- even though he had been banned from communicating with her.
Chatham-Kent police said they got a call about that shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Police said their investigation showed that the man had been charged with several sexual offences in 2022 and had been released by the court with several conditions, one of which banned him from communicating with the victim in any way.
Officers said they got a warrant for his arrest and he turned himself in shortly after 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday.
He was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a release order. After his bail hearing, the man was transported to the Southwest Regional Detention Centre pending his next court appearance later this week.

Man with a hunting knife tased after chasing woman
A 37-year-old Ridgetown man is facing charges after he allegedly chased a woman in Blenheim while holding a knife and threatened a homeowner.
CK police said they were called to the scene on Stanley Street shortly before 4:15 p.m. Wednesday and were told that the man was carrying a hunting knife when he chased the woman inside a business there.
The man then allegedly went into a residence on Stanley Street without permission and threatened the homeowner when they asked him to leave.
Police said they used a taser on the man in order to take him into custody without any further incident.
The accused was taken to police headquarters, where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.
He was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, one count of break and enter, and one count of uttering threats.

Wanted man arrested in Wallaceburg
Chatham-Kent police caught up with a wanted man in Wallaceburg late Wednesday night.
Officers said they found him on Turnbull Avenue at 11:30 p.m. and confirmed he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in connection with several investigations.
The 41-year-old Chatham man was taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.
The man is currently charged with two counts each of drug possession, failing to attend court, and mischief. He is also facing one count each of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, theft, and possession of stolen property along with several Highway Traffic Act Offences.

Wallaceburg man caught on surveillance camera
A 24-year-old Wallaceburg man is facing a pair of charges after he was allegedly caught on camera stealing from a local business.
CK police said they responded to a security alarm at the business on Mason Street in Wallaceburg at 2:25 a.m. Thursday, adding that the suspect was recorded on surveillance footage.
When officers arrived and searched the property, they found the man hiding there.
The accused was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.
He was charged with theft and break and enter.
