The Emergency Evacuation Centre, which has been housing displaced fire victims from 99 McNaughton Avenue West, will close on Thursday.
The Canadian Red Cross has been operating the Evacuation Centre for nearly two weeks when it became clear that there weren't enough hotel rooms to meet demands after the blaze.
According to the municipality, 13 households registered to use the Evacuation Centre since it opened on August 30.
"We want to thank the dedicated staff and volunteers of the Red Cross for assisting Chatham-Kent with this emergency and we want to extend our thanks to the many other CK residents who are providing temporary stays to their friends and family members at this time," said Director of Housing Services Josh Myers. "As the emergency stabilizes, we are transitioning into a prolonged effort to assist the residents of 99 McNaughton. Staff will continue to work with all tenants until they are able to return to their homes."
Housing Services added that staff have reached out to all impacted tenants to advise them of the change and any tenants who still need emergency housing should connect with their case manager or call the Homeless Response Line at 519-354-6628.
