The issue of faulty Tanaka airbags in vehicles continues.
The Ford Motor Company announced on Tuesday morning that the advisory covers owners of certain vehicles that have not been serviced following a series of three recalls dating back to 2015.
A spokesperson with Ford has confirmed that out of the 765,600 airbag inflators in Ford and Lincoln vehicles affected globally, about 160,900 are in those sold in Canada, which affects about 146,650 vehicles.
The advisory affects several product lines equipped with the Tanaka non-desiccated airbag inflators.
"This do-not-drive advisory is the second Takata-related do-not-drive recall advisory issued by Ford, and it is intended to encourage owners to complete the recall repairs immediately," read the advisory from Ford. "The age of these vehicles makes it increasingly possible that a part inside the airbag will explode and expel sharp metal fragments during a crash. This could cause serious injury or death to the driver or passengers."
The advisory applies to all customers who have not completed recall numbers 15-S-21, 17-S-42, and 19-S-01, including driver and passenger airbag inflators in the following models.
2004 to 2006 Ford Ranger trucks
2005 to 2014 Ford Mustang vehicles
2005 to 2006 Ford GT vehicles
Passenger airbag inflators in these vehicles are also affected.
2006 to 2012 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln MKZ and Zephyr vehicles
2007 to 2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles
2007 to 2011 Ford Ranger trucks
The do-not-drive advisory also covers some 83,000 Mazda vehicles sold in the U.S. alone, in model years 2003 to 2015.
If you have one of the above vehicles and have not had the adjustments done, Ford advises doing so immediately. Customers can request mobile service or have their vehicle towed to a Ford dealership, where repairs will be made at no cost to the customer. Loaner vehicles may be provided by the dealership if needed.
