Damage estimated at $40K after mischief at Chatham band shell

Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers is putting out a call for tips after someone caused some significant damage to an HVAC unit at the Band Shell in Tecumseh Park in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said someone cut open the fencing around the unit and caused about $40,000 in damage, removing some copper.

The incident took place after the Chatham Concert Band had left the band shell late Wednesday night and was reported just before 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

Anyone with information that can identify the person or persons responsible for the break-in and damage is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or visit www.ckcrimestoppers.ca and email in your tip.

Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.

Man wanted by Chatham-Kent police turns up in Niagara

A 50-year-old St. Catharines man who was wanted in Chatham-Kent for failing to show up for court got a police escort back to CK.

CK police said they were notified by the Niagara Regional Police Service at 11:45 a.m. Thursday that the man was in their custody.

He was taken to Chatham-Kent police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

The man is currently facing several charges including four counts of failing to comply with a release order, two counts of failing to attend court, and one count each of sexual assault, flight from police, dangerous driving, and possession of stolen property.

Blenheim man accused of assaulting his mom

A 28-year-old Blenheim man is facing assault and threats charges after a family argument took a violent turn in Raleigh Township.

CK police said they were called to the family dispute shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday, adding that the man and his mother had been arguing when the man allegedly threatened to harm his mother and then followed through on that threat by assaulting her.

The accused was arrested, charged, and taken to police headquarters before he was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Hazard lights alert police to allegedly impaired driver

A 53-year-old Windsor woman is facing a pair of impaired driving charges after a near miss in Chatham Township Thursday night.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested the woman after they got a traffic complaint on Longwoods Road at around 9:15 p.m. Thursday.

Officers were told that a vehicle was driving erratically and was nearly involved in a collision.

They found the vehicle pulled over west of Lindsay Road with its four-way flashers on and believed the woman driving was under the influence of alcohol.

She was taken to police headquarters for breath tests and was later charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

The woman was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Her vehicle was set to be impounded for seven days and her license was suspended for 90 days.

Chair stolen from Tilbury business, returned after suspect arrested

A 49-year-old Belle River man accused of stealing a chair from a business on Queen Street South in Tilbury has turned himself -- and the chair -- in to police.

CK police said the man turned himself in at around 9:45 p.m. Thursday in connection with a break-in that took place at the business on Wednesday.

Officers said a door was damaged during the incident and a chair was stolen.

The man was arrested and charged with break and enter and possession of stolen property before he was released with conditions and a future court date.

Police said the chair was also returned.
