Man accused of shoving woman during confrontation

A 47-year-old man is facing a pair of assault charges after he allegedly pushed someone during a confrontation in Chatham a couple of weeks ago.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called in for the assault investigation on Gregory Drive West on June 18 and learned that the man had allegedly shown up at the victim's home to address something that had taken place between his daughter and another female youth.

Police said the confrontation escalated to the point where the man became belligerent and aggressive towards the youth's mother.

Officers said the man then allegedly assaulted the woman and shoved her backward, sending her into another woman, who also fell to the ground.

Both of those women reported minor physical injuries as a result of the shove.

Police said the man also fell forward and hurt his shin when he pushed the woman.

Officers said the man left before police arrived and they obtained a warrant for his arrest after he failed to turn himself in.

Police arrested the man at his home shortly before 8 a.m. on July 2 and took him to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

He is charged with two counts of assault.
