St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School on schedule to open in September

School's out forever, at least for Georges P. Vanier and St. Ursula Catholic schools.

The newly built St. Teresa of Calcutta that students from those two schools will be moving into in September is in the final stages of completion.

According to a video update, the construction crew is putting the finishing touches on the school.

"We've had great weather, like we've had the whole entire time building this whole project," said Derek Hogeterp, Site Supervisor from Norlon Builders. "We are now getting in some interior finishes, and waxing and final cleaning on rooms. so that is very exciting for us."

Next up are exterior finishes like sidewalks, planting, and sod, with teachers and staff being able to move in this week to start setting up classrooms and workspaces.

"We are really looking forward to the teachers, the ECEs, the office staff, EAs and custodians being able to go in and put the finishing touches on the building," said Superintendent of Education Lisa Demers. "So that it becomes more than just painted walls it actually becomes a community school."

Teachers and staff from both schools organized a three day event for students to meet each other before starting in the combined space in the fall.

"It took away some of the fear as they are moving into a new school community. and a number of the students have already made new friends," said Demers.

As for the youngest incoming students, those starting kindergarten will get a letter in the coming weeks inviting them to come and see their classroom and meet their teachers before they start in the fall.

"We believe it's really important to have our littlest learners who didn't get an opportunity to visit their school at the end of last year to have this opportunity in august. I think parents will be very happy to have that opportunity to help alleviate any stresses their little ones might have," said Demers.
