TAG 'Here I Am' award winners announced

The Thames Art Gallery has announced the winners of six different awards offered in conjunction with the Here I Am Student Exhibition.

Over 70 students from four high schools in Chatham-Kent participated in the exhibit, creating more than 100 artworks for display.

Halle DeJonge, a grade 10 student from Chatham-Kent Secondary School, won the first People's Choice Award, donated by Gallery Advisory Committee Member Clair Culliford.

The second People's Choice Award, donated by Michael M. Garland, Chair of the Gallery Advisory Committee, was awarded to Makenna Mifflin who is in grade 10 attending John McGregor Secondary School.

Secretary of the Gallery Advisory Committee, Vicki McFarland, donated the third People's Choice Award, which went to CKSS grade 12 student Lucy Thrift.

McFarland also donated two Awards of Excellence.

The first went to Laila Stewart, who is in grade 12 at John McGregor Secondary School.

The second was awarded to Scarlett Koole, a grade 11 student from CKSS.

Quinn Stoner, who is graduating from Ursuline College Chatham was awarded the $1,000 scholarship award, donated by Cathy Van Raay-Myers. Stoner plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Windsor.

The students' art is on display now and can be seen at the Thames Art Gallery until August 11.
