Teen arrested for intimate partner violence

A 19-year-old from Chatham is facing a litany of charges after entering a residence he was barred from and assaulting a woman on Friday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., Chatham police responded a disturbance call at a residence on Grand Avenue West.

Police say that a man had attended a woman’s residence, contrary to his court ordered conditions. He was instructed to leave by the homeowner, and instead, assaulted the woman along with her friend who had attempted to intervene and help.

The suspect also caused damage before fleeing on foot with several items belonging to the homeowner.

Police located the man a short distance away and placed him under arrest.

He is now facing charges for: failure to comply with release order (four counts), assault (two counts), assault causing bodily harm, mischief under $5000, theft under $5000 (two counts) and possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (two counts).

He was held in custody pending a show cause bailing hearing.

Pair steal from Waste Connections

Police are seeking help locating two suspects that broke into the Waste Connections compound.

On Friday morning between the hours of 1:50 a.m. and 3:50 a.m., two suspects gained entry into the secure fenced-in compound at 91 Sass Road.

Police say "several items of value" were taken by the suspects before fleeing from the property, though no valuation was given. However, approximately $400 in damage was done to the fence as a result of the forced entry.

Two brought in on outstanding warrants

Police brought in a 28-year-old on an outstanding warrant after responding to a suspicious person call Friday morning.

Around 8 a.m., police attended the area of Merritt Avenue. The man was found to have an outstanding warrant in effect for failure to comply with a probation order.

He was arrested on the strength of this warrant, transported to police headquarters for processing, and ultimately released on an appearance notice with a future court date.

That afternoon, around 4:30 p.m., a woman attended police headquarters in Chatham to turn herself in on an outstanding bench warrant for failing to attend court.

The 35-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and released a short time later on an appearance notice with future court date.
