CK Library plans to keep people busy this summer

The municipality has planned a number of programs for the public in the next few months.

First and foremost, in an effort to encourage a love of reading the Chatham-Kent Public Library is inviting kids, teens, and families to join its summer reading clubs.

The TD Summer Reading Club (SRC) was developed by the Toronto Public Library and Library and Archives Canada and sponsored by TD Bank, to help kids maintain their reading levels in the months outside of school. It offers activities, programs, and performances throughout the summer.

More information about what local library branches are offering can be found here.

A reading contest is also being held for readers aged 12 to 18.

From June 22 to August 24, teens can earn ballots to win prizes every time they borrow materials from the library, online or in person.

Prizes vary from art kits to Dungeons and Dragons manuals to an acoustic guitar.

Starting Saturday, adults also have a chance to win prizes that include gift certificates for local businesses.

Those 16 and older can pick up an Adult Summer Reading punch card, every three checkouts that punch card becomes a ballot to win a prize.

The Hidden Gems prize contest runs until August 31.

If reading isn't your style, the Chatham branch of the public library will be showing movies every Tuesday at 2 p.m.

In July, the library will play The Color Purple, Dungeons and Dragons, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Iron Claw, and Bob Marley: One Love.

Registration is not required and though the program is free, a $2 donation is suggested at the door.

Puzzle lovers looking to change things up, can participate in the library's Jigsaw Puzzle Swap.

Chatham Branch will host the Swap on Saturday, July 6 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Meeting Room.

Participants will receive a voucher indicating how many puzzles they drop off during library hours from July 2 to July 5. On July 6, the vouchers can be used to buy a new puzzle.

Puzzles must be 500 pieces or more, in good condition, and with no missing pieces.

---

Gamers are also welcome to the Chatham branch's Mahjong Club.

This summer the club will meet to play the ancient Chinese game every Monday from 3 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

All playing levels are welcome.
