Wanted woman found in a parking lot in Chatham

A 32-year-old Chatham woman who was wanted for skipping a court date in June won't be missing her next scheduled appearance.

Chatham-Kent police said the woman was required to show up in court on June 12 to answer to charges of fraud and obstructing a peace officer.

Police said she skipped that scheduled appearance, though, so officers got a warrant for her arrest.

Almost six months later, police caught up with her in a parking lot on Wellington Street West in Chatham on Tuesday.

Officers were able to confirm that she was wanted on an outstanding warrant and arrested her.

She was taken into custody and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Four arrests in domestic violence investigations

Four Chatham-Kent residents in their 20s are facing charges in connection with three different investigations into domestic violence.

Chatham-Kent police said the Thamesville man was released from court in January with several conditions, including some that required him to stop communicating with the victim and to stay away from any place the victim was known to live, work, or go to school.

Investigators said they recently learned that the man had breached those conditions over the past couple of months and that the man had allegedly assaulted the victim again while they were arguing a few weeks ago.

Officers said they tried to look for the man, but couldn't find him, so they obtained a warrant for his arrest.

The man then turned himself in to police shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The man was charged with two counts each of assault and failing to comply with his release conditions along with one count each of mischief and uttering threats.

In a second domestic violence case, a 21-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged after police were called to a home in downtown Chatham just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers said they found a man and a woman at the home and arrested the woman for assault.

She was taken to police headquarters where she allegedly damaged a holding cell while she was being held in custody.

The 21-year-old woman was charged with assault, uttering threats, and mischief. She was later released with conditions and a future court date.

In the third domestic violence case, Chatham-Kent police said a 28-year-old Chatham woman and a 29-year-old Chatham man were both arrested and charged.

Police said they made the arrests after they were called to an apartment in downtown Chatham at around 4:30 a.m.

Officers said when they arrived, they learned that a man there had been banned from communicating with a specific woman, but that she had also initiated the contact with him.

Police said their investigation showed that the man had also allegedly assaulted the woman recently.

They were both arrested and taken to police headquarters.

The woman was charged with facilitating a breach of conditions and the man was charged with assault causing bodily harm and breaching his conditions.

Arrest for bail violations

A 41-year-old Chatham man is facing a pair of charges after he was allegedly caught riding his bicycle in Chatham way past his curfew.

Police said an officer on general patrol saw the man on a bicycle on Kirk Street in Chatham at around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday and recognized him from "previous interactions."

The officer was able to confirm that the man was out past his curfew, which required him to stay home from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., and took the man into custody -- but only after the man allegedly resisted arrest.

Police said the accused was charged with breaching his release conditions and resisting arrest.
