Investigation into stolen truck leads police to uncover possible links to ongoing break-and-enters
Chatham-Kent police believe they may have cracked open a case that could be linked to multiple break-and-enter incidents.
Police said the break in the case came when they were responding to a call about a break-and-enter on McNaughton Line in Chatham Township shortly after 10 a.m. Monday.
Officers said at that time, they learned that some tools and a pickup truck had been stolen from the property.
Investigators were able to find the stolen truck at a trailer park on Longwoods Road and later executed a search warrant at a residence on Longwoods Rd.
Officers said they were able to successfully recover about $25,000 worth of stolen property and believe the recovered property may be connected to some other ongoing break-and-enter investigations.
A 33-year-old man from Chatham Township was arrested and charged with multiple offences in connection with the case, including break-and-enter, theft over $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, trafficking property obtained by crime, and criminal harassment.
He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
Officers also stopped a vehicle while they were investigating and learned that the woman behind the wheel of the vehicle, a 35-year-old woman from Chatham Township, was driving without a valid license.
Her vehicle was set to be impounded for 45 days and she was charged with driving while prohibited and driving under suspension.
She was taken to police headquarters and was later released with conditions and a future court date.
