Chatham-Kent Health Alliance welcomes first baby of 2023

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance's first baby of 2023 is a boy.

Baby Blain Bunning was welcomed into the world at 4:48 a.m. on January 1, 2023.

He is the second child of parents Alyssa and Mark Bunning.

"We made it home within 12 hours," said Alyssa Bunning. "We are both doing very well. I am feeling good and we have a lot of family support."

The family’s new addition will be joining his 3-year-old big brother, Oliver.

"He came right over and gave him a hug," said Alyssa Bunning. "It was a very sweet first moment."

According to Bunning, baby Blain was not supposed to arrive until January 8.

"I thought I was going to go early, I thought I would probably end up being in on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve over the holidays and low and behold, it happened," said Alyssa Bunning. "It wasn't necessarily anticipated but it sure will be remembered forever."

The new baby weighed in at 6 pounds, 8 oz. and is happy and healthy.
