Local filmmaker continues to receive accolades for short film 'Milk'

A Chatham-Kent raised filmmaker's short film has been made an official selection for DigiFest in Southern California.

Monty Langford's film titled Milk is a science fiction/dystopian short film about a man who goes out to purchase milk in a post-apocalyptic city.

While he is out, the man puts on some music and finds freedom through dance.

Langford said he was inspired during the COVID-19 pandemic and the movie became his project during quarantine. He was also inspired by sci-fi films like Blade Runner and Casablanca.

His film has also been featured in small film festivals across the globe, from Vancouver Island all the way to Prague in the Czech Republic.

Growing up, Langford always had a love for film, but his passion peaked when he attended Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

"I had amazing drama and English teachers, and my favorite com-tech teacher, Mr. Williams, who helped me break down the concepts of film, how to film, and the meanings, symbolism, and themes," said Langford. "So I really fell in love with it. [I] told my mom and she said, well, I'm gonna force you to watch all of the film classics. So we watched Blade Runner and Total Recall, and Apocalypse Now."

Langford has worked on the post-production team of some big blockbuster films like Star Wars, Spider-man, Hobbs and Shaw, and more.

Currently, Langford is working on multiple projects.

One of which is a film called Pirate Treasure, which was shot in Rondeau Provincial Park.

He is also in talks with a production company in Toronto, writing and directing a 30-minute sci-fi film.

When he is not working on film projects, Langford can be found on his TikTok page, Ten Second Film School where he shares filmmaking techniques, facts, and other fun clips.
