Woman charged with assault

A 38-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after an incident in Ridgetown on Wednesday night.

Around 6 p.m., police were called to an address on George Street in regards to a neighbour dispute.

Through investigation, it was revealed that the woman had allegedly approached a group of people and threatened them with a knife. The woman then began picking up pieces of asphalt and reportedly started throwing them at two vehicles in the area as well as throwing a piece of asphalt at a door of a residence.

The woman then approached an individual and caused an injury by allegedly head-butting them.

The Ridgetown woman was located by police shortly after where she was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault and three counts of mischief.

While at the police station, the woman allegedly proceeded to spit on and kick at an officer as she was being escorted to her cell.

As a result, she was additionally charged with assaulting a peace officer and was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Thieves leave home water damaged 

Police are investigating after some suspects broke into a vacant home in Chatham, stole several items and caused thousands of dollars in damage.

According to police, sometime between August 13 and August 31 unknown suspects kicked in a door to a vacant residence on Victoria Avenue.

Once inside, the culprits removed copper wiring and plumbing. A washer and dryer were also stolen.

Prior to leaving, the suspects left the water running inside, causing $15,000 worth of damage.

Accused hides under a pile of clothes

Chatham-Kent police didn't have to look too hard to find a man wanted on domestic-related charges.

Around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers attended an address on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg in regards to a man that had a warrant out for his arrest.

Police entered the apartment and began searching for the suspect. He was located hiding in a closet, underneath a pile of clothes.

The 32-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm. He was eventually released with a future court date

Break-in at Wheatley Arena

Chatham-Kent police are looking for leads from the public after Wheatley arena was broken into.

Officers were called to the building on Wednesday morning in regards to break and enter. According to police, unknown suspects entered the arena by prying open a door.

It is unknown if anything was taken at this time.

Woman arrested for theft

A Chatham woman will have to answer to two charges after a reported theft from Walmart in Chatham.

An officer on general patrol located the woman on Centre Street in Chatham on Wednesday.

Through investigation, it was revealed that the woman was wanted for allegedly stealing a bicycle from Walmart the week prior.

She was arrested for theft and possession under $5,000 and failing to comply with her release order. She was later released with a future court date.

Stolen truck recovered 

Chatham-Kent police were able to find a pickup truck that had previously been reported stolen.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police received information that a suspect was in possession of a stolen pickup truck in the Tecumseh Park area.

Officers attended the area and located a stolen Dodge Ram that had been taken from an address on Glenwood Drive last week.

According to police, the suspect was not located and there are currently no grounds for charges.
