Man accused of punching officer during arrest

A 26-year-old Chatham man is charged with assaulting a police officer after he allegedly punched an officer who found him behind a dumpster on King Street in Chatham Thursday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said they found the man while they were responding to a call about a suspicious person behind a dumpster at a business downtown.

Police said they believed the man had drugs on him, so they arrested him.

While he was being arrested, the man allegedly tried to get away and then punched an officer.

The accused was charged, taken back to police headquarters, and later released with a future court date.

Man arrested for breaching house arrest

A 23-year-old Wallaceburg man who was under house arrest is facing charges after he was allegedly spotted at a business in Wallaceburg Thursday evening.

Police said the man had been released from the court at the end of May with a conditional sentence order that required him to stay inside his residence at all times, except for specific reasons.

Despite that, police said they were notified just after 5:30 p.m. Thursday that the man was at a business on McNaughton Avenue.

Officers said they found the man there and arrested him.

He was charged with failing to comply with his probation order and was taken back to police headquarters. He was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested after following woman around

A 25-year-old Blenheim man is facing a harassment charge after he allegedly followed a woman around in Tilbury -- even after she told him to stop.

Police said their investigation started when they received a complaint about a suspicious person in the area of Helen Street in Tilbury Thursday night.

Officers said they learned that a woman there had seen a man following her and told him to stop, but he allegedly continued to ride by her home.

Police said they found the man, arrested him, and charged him with criminal harassment. He was taken back to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.
