New program in CK aims to recognize good deeds

If you know someone in Chatham-Kent who goes the extra mile to help their neighbours, there's now an opportunity to reward them for their work.

On Tuesday, the municipality officially launched its Good Neighbour Recognition Program.

According to the municipality, the program was conceived by a local resident who wanted to emphasize all of the good things being done in the community. It was approved by council in mid-September.

Residents can nominate someone who they believe should be recognized for their work in making the community a better place.

Some ideas of why to nominate a person include if they shovel snow for a neighbour, organize a community project or pick up garbage around the neighbourhood.

"The fact that someone in the community came up with the idea and members of the community will be bringing forth the nominees is great," said Mayor Darrin Canniff. "Adding to the fact that the successful nominees get a gift card from a local business and that the entire program is being underwritten by one of our foremost corporate citizens is fantastic."

Nominations will be sent to Chatham-Kent council for a final decision and successful nominees will receive a $25 gift card for a local business, which will be provided by TekSavvy.

The person nominating the neighbour will receive the card and thank you gift and be asked to deliver them to their neighbour.

Nominations can be submitted by clicking here.

There is a limit of 100 cards for the 2021/2022 program year.
