Man charged with impaired driving
A Chatham man will have to answer to impaired driving charges after being caught with beer in his vehicle.
It started on Saturday when police received a driving complaint. According to police, the man was sitting in his vehicle with a can of beer between his legs.
Upon further investigation, officers believed the man was driving under the influence and he was arrested.
The 52-year-old was transported to the police station where he allegedly refused to provide a breath sample. As a result, he was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and refusing a breath sample.
He was eventually released with a future court date.
Breach of probation arrest
A man is facing a handful of charges after being arrested on Saturday in Chatham.
Officers attended the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance in regards to an unwanted person issue. A 29-year-old Chatham man was located and it was determined that he was also the subject of an unwanted person call at 7-Eleven.
The man had a probation order with conditions to not attend either one of those locations. Upon further investigation, the man was also currently being investigated for theft from a St. Clair Street business.
The man was arrested, charged accordingly and transported to the police station where he was held pending a bail hearing.
Break and enter in Chatham
Police are investigating after a break-in at some storage units in Chatham.
It happened on Saturday when a storage unit property on Richmond Street had multiple storage units entered.
Six of the units had the locks cut, three units were unused and the remaining three are to be inventoried once the owners contacted.
