A long-term care facility in Chatham will be able to move forward with upgrades to 64 spaces after receiving an increase to a multi-million dollar investment from the provincial government.
The office of MPP Rick Nicholls announced on Thursday that Copper Terrace will receive a total of $2,662,656 of additional funding. This comes after the Ford government introduced a new funding model with the goal of building and renovating 74 long-term care homes in Ontario through an additional $761 million investment.
“We introduced the modernized funding model to build and renovate these homes faster, and we’re already seeing results, with thousands of new, safe, and comfortable spaces in progress,” said Minister of Long-Term Care Merrilee Fullerton in a media release.
The funding model referenced includes the goal of creating 30,000 beds over 10 years. To address costly construction barriers, the model also includes an up-front development grant.
“Over the next decade, and as our population ages, the need for long-term care beds will increase significantly,” said Nicholls. “Our government is ensuring that our loved ones will have a comfortable, modern place to live with the support they need and when they need it.”
Copper Terrace was originally set to receive $13,105,477 but the additional funding under the new model puts the investment total at $15,768,133.
