While there has been no official cancellation, Detroit's Mayor Mike Duggan said, "there's no way" the Ford Fireworks over the Detroit River will go ahead at the end of June.
The event in Hart Plaza is on June 22, but the COVID-19 pandemic has cancelled events small and large, and the fireworks display typically attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators on both sides of the border.
"I can't imagine; certainly not on the schedule," Duggan told WWJ Newsradio 950 Thursday. "We haven't had any conversation about it, but there's just, there's no way that anybody's going to allow crowds, certainly I'm not gonna allow crowds of that size."
It is just the latest cancellation for residents in Windsor-Essex. The LaSalle Strawberry Festival, the Tecumseh Victoria Day Fireworks, and the 2020 Bridal and Event Expo are only a few of the events that have fallen by the wayside because of social distancing measures.
Duggan said it could be held later in the year, but "we haven't focused on that yet. But, it certainly won't be on the regular schedule."
