Trip from courthouse to the LCBO ends in charges
A 29-year-old man accused of trying to get a five-finger discount on five bottles of whiskey shortly after leaving the courthouse in Chatham is in more trouble with the law now.
Chatham-Kent police said the man was released from the courthouse at around 3 p.m. Wednesday and made his way to the LCBO on Wellington Street in Chatham just before 4 p.m. At that time, he allegedly grabbed five bottles of Crown Royal and took off without paying for them.
Officers were able to track the man down a short distance away, adding that he still had the whiskey in his possession.
A 29-year-old Walpole Island man was charged with theft and possession of stolen property and was taken back into custody pending a bail hearing.

Teen faces charges after disturbance in Chatham
A 16-year-old Chatham youth has been charged with two counts of assault in connection with a disturbance between youths in the city Wednesday night.
Police said officers made the arrest after they were called to the area of Queen Street and Park Avenue East in Chatham. Minor injuries were reported.
The accused was arrested, charged, and released with a future court date.

Rifle reported stolen from shed in Tilbury
Chatham-Kent police are working to track down a .22 Winchester rifle and case that were both stolen from a locked shed in Tilbury earlier this week.
Officers said they were taken sometime between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, adding that someone also rummaged through a vehicle at the property.

Pick-up truck stolen in Tilbury
Police are also working to track down a pick-up truck that was reported stolen from a residence on Gleeson Line.
Investigators said the grey 2010 Toyota Tacoma was taken sometime between 2 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and was last seen with Ontario license plates BC17650.

Tools taken from Chatham construction site
Chatham-Kent police are investigating after someone broke into a storage container at a construction site on Moonstone Crescent in Chatham and took off with various DeWalt tools.
Police said it happened sometime between late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.
The total value of the stolen tools is estimated at $1,200.
