Provincial government creates website to fight impacts of COVID-19

Ontario is launching a new website that connects the provincial government with businesses who want to help with the challenges of COVID-19.

Ontario Together aims to remove barriers and make it easier for companies that are looking to supply emergency medical products to those in need.

Through the portal, companies will be able to tell the provincial government if they are able to supply in-demand supplies such as ventilators, swabs, hand sanitizer and masks.

During a press conference on Saturday afternoon, Premier Doug Ford said there's already been a large number of people who have come forward asking for ways they could help out over the last few weeks.

"We're ready to mobilize our manufacturing might to help the entire country and we want Ontario to become the workshop of Canada," said Ford. "Extraordinary times call for extraordinary efforts and we are already seeing people stepping up and offering to help out as we deal with this unprecedented situation. This is a true demonstration of Ontario Spirit."

Companies and individuals are also able to use the website to submit proposals and ideas to help the government fight the impacts of the novel coronavirus.

Ford said he's calling on people to look at outside-the-box ways to help supply vital items.

"Our front line health care workers are running out of key items...my message to business owners in Ontario is this, if you can retool your business to make these products, if you can supply these essential items, we need to hear from you right now," he said. "If you need funding we can make it happen, we'll find a way to help you."
