Chatham-Kent ATV Club bringing back food drive

A popular event, which has been on hold since 2019, is back.

The Chatham-Kent ATV club has resurrected its food drive, which ran for three years starting in 2017, and collected around $60,000 worth of non-perishable food items.

Donations are currently being accepted online through GoFundMe, with a goal of raising $10,000.

"As the funds come in and we collect them, we go out and look for the best deals on groceries," said Vince Masse, President of the Chatham-Kent ATV Club. "We have three enclosed trailers that we are going to fill up."

Then on Saturday, November 9, volunteers will be set up at the Real Canadian Superstore in Chatham to collect donations in person from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

"Then we start loading up all club members and volunteer's pick-ups, and we'll be heading to 10 to 12 food banks all through Chatham-Kent," said Masse. "Not just the city of Chatham, but Wallaceburg, Dresden, Thamesville, Tilbury, Wheatley, Blenheim, and all in between."

Masse adds they decided to bring the food drive back because the demand is so high right now.

"Right now, times are as tough as ever, that I've probably seen in my lifetime. And the food banks are having a hard time keeping up," said Masse.
