Residents in Chatham-Kent are among thousands across the country donning jerseys to show support for victims of the deadly Humboldt Broncos bus crash.
Community members in CK wore their jerseys on Thursday as part of a nation-wide campaign to support the 16 victims who lost their lives in the crash last week in rural Saskatchewan. The campaign called “Jersey Day” also encouraged people to wear green, the hockey club’s main colour, or a green ribbon.
Groups and organizations within the municipality showed their support by posting photos of community members sporting their jerseys with the hashtag #JerseysForHumboldt.
A book filled with pages of condolences from the municipality will also be sent to Humboldt over the weekend.
A GoFundMe campaign for the victims and survivors of the crash has now passed $9.4-million. Over 100,000 donors from 65 countries have made pledges.
