The group in possession of the Downtown Chatham Centre has transferred ownership to a Toronto-based company.
The Warrener Family has sold to Touchstone Group Ltd., but DCC staff say the new owner's vision aligns with their current goals.
"The next focus moving forward will be the attraction and retention of new tenants to the shopping centre," says Downtown Chatham Centre General Manager Lynn O'Brien. "That's in line with exactly where we were headed."
O'Brien says the agreement has been six or seven months in the making. She also wouldn't speculate why the deal was made. O'Brien says patrons won't notice any changes to the mall's day-to-day operations, after the Warrener's helped grow the infrastructure of the centre.
"Dan [Warrener] had spent a lot of money on capital in the revitalization in the shopping centre's interior and exterior. This includes King St. Commons, a new entrance, new lighting," says O'Brien.
O'Brien says they'll also continue to be part of the Chatham community, hosting non-profit events and the Chatham Santa Claus Parade.
