The Emergency Training Services Centre in Blyth will soon be offer a course in farm safety.
Principal Dave Sparling explains fire fighters face some unique situations on a farm that they don't encounter in other types of emergencies.
He points out the equipment used to extricate someone from a vehicle won't usually be effective on heavy farm equipment, and on a farm they often find themselves working in very confined spaces.
This type of training was offered by the Province but that has been discontinued, so the Training Centre in Blyth has partnered with instructors from Oklahoma and Pennsylvania State Universities.
It's a two-year course, running Friday night's and Saturdays through 2015 and '16.
The course starts this Friday.
