The federal government will invest $2 million to strengthen traceability and biosecuirty in the pork industry.
Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz made the announcement Thursday at the Canada Pork International Annual Meeting in Toronto.
The Canadian Pork Council will receive up to $1.6 million towards the ongoing maintenance and implementation of PigTrace Canada, the national swine traceability program that's been mandatory since July of 2014.
Ritz says premium markets, like Japan and Korea, notice what is being done and gives Canadian pork producers and edge internationally.
