Former health-care worker eyeing spot on CK council

A retired frontline health-care worker is eyeing a spot on Chatham-Kent's (CK) next municipal council.

Larry Hutchins is running to be one of two Ward 7 councillors, representing the northeast part of Chatham. Ward 7 is one of three newly formed Wards covering Chatham, with each having two councillors to keep the city's overall representation on council at six.

Hutchins told CK News Today he's not a fan of the work being done by the current council, which ultimately gave him the drive to put his name forward.

"I believe we need more fiscal responsibility, more economic development, and more emphasis on housing," he said.

Hutchins provided more thoughts on improving the municipality's fiscal responsibility, explaining that there needs to be more emphasis on improving infrastructure and the day-to-day needs of taxpayers.

As for why he believes people should vote for him, Hutchins said he's somebody who wants to make life better for the average person.

"I'm somebody who thinks outside of the box, I'm going to come to the table with new ideas and new thoughts, and I'm not afraid to express my opinions," he added.

CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
