Spitfires lose in overtime to Sault Ste. Marie

The Windsor Spitfires weren’t able to win a low scoring game against Sault Ste. Marie.

They took on the Greyhounds on the road Sunday and lost 2-1 in overtime.

The loss was Windsor’s second in a row following the 9-3 thrashing they took from the Sudbury Wolves two days earlier.

The first period was uneventful for both teams. Each got six shots despite there being three powerplays.

The Spitfires opened the scoring in the second period when Ethan Belchetz found the back of the net for his 6th of the season. Ilya Protas and Anthony Cristoforo each got an assist on the play.

It would remain 1-0 until halfway through the third period as Noel Nordh would tie the game for Sault Ste. Marie.

It would stay tied going into overtime where the Greyhounds would dominate, outshooting Windsor 5-0. It was Greyhounds’ defenseman Brodie McConnell-Barker who would get the game winner.

With the loss, Windsor’s record drops to 14-5-2-0, while Sault Ste. Marie moves to 12-9-0-0.

The Spitfires' next game is on Thursday, November 21, at home against the Barrie Colts.
