Halloween-themed fundraiser brings in $15,000

The spirit of the spooky season was at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre.

The ninth annual Carve 4 Cancer fundraiser raised $15,072 for the cancer centre's foundation.

The fundraiser has been organized by Amherstburg resident Lindsey Bareich since its inception.

"When I started the event at 12 years old, it was to make a visible, positive impact on patients and families at the cancer centre," said Bareich. "Seeing the smiles on people's faces when they see the pumpkins makes all the planning and hard work completely worth it."

Over a dozen businesses engaged in a friendly competition to design a giant pumpkin and display it at the cancer centre. They competed for Best Pumpkin, voted on through the foundation's Facebook page.

Seventeen pumpkins were submitted, with the pumpkin sponsored by Sunsetters Tanning Salon in Leamington receiving the most in-person votes.

The pumpkin sponsored by KPMG got the most online votes. Centreline (Limited) Windsor raised the most money, and the pumpkin from MTE Controls Group was the judge's choice.

Over $108,500 has been raised in the nine-year history of Carve 4 Cancer.
