An American driver learned a very expensive lesson after an assortment of illicit cannabis was seized at the border.
Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) agents referred a U.S. traveller for secondary inspection at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel on Wednesday, October 21.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 13 kilograms of cannabis and 49 THC vapes. The items were confiscated.
The traveller was fined $56,100 and sent back to Detroit, with no criminal charges filed.
The CBSA has reminded travellers that although cannabis is legal in Canada and the state of Michigan for recreational use, it is against the law to bring it over the border.
