Additional charges announced in LaSalle standoff

LaSalle Police have provided additional details on a standoff that stretched almost six hours on Tuesday.

Police were called to a home on Oakridge Street around 12:45 p.m. after a man threatened to kill someone else.

"Through investigation, officers learned the man may have access to firearms, so additional police resources were deployed, including assistance from the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT)," said LaSalle Police Chief Michael Pearce.

The man surrendered without further incident shortly after 6:30 p.m.

The 58-year-old man has been charged with one count of uttering death threats, five counts of careless storage of a firearm, four counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and two counts of possessing a prohibited device.

A search of the property uncovered eight firearms including a .50 caliber sniper rifle, handguns, and shotguns; two crossbows, two recurve bows, two pellet guns, and assorted ammunition.

The suspect is being held in custody. The charges have not been proven in court.
