Charges formally laid after Lakeshore investigation

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say two men have been officially charged in connection with an active investigation last week in Lakeshore.

It began just before 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, when officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Renaud Line and County Road 42.

The vehicle did not stop and was found unoccupied shortly after on Renaud Line after the two occupants ran off, heading toward a field along County Road 42 between Renaud Line and Rourke Line.

A 32-year-old man from Leamington was arrested first, and a 35-year-old Leamington man was apprehended several hours later.

The 32-year-old is charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, knowingly occupying a vehicle with a weapon, four counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, possession of a Schedule I substance with intent to sell, and failure to comply with a probation order.

The 35-year-old is charged with possessing a dangerous weapon, fleeing a peace officer, speeding, driving while suspended and prohibited, disobeying a court order, possession of a Schedule I substance with intent to sell, and failure to comply with a probation order.

The charges have not been proven in court. Both men are being held pending a bail hearing.
