Only a year after getting their first collective bargaining agreement, NextStar Energy employees are looking at a potential strike.
Unifor Local 444, which represents NextStar employees, reported on Thursday that 98 per cent of eligible employees voted in favour of strike action as the one-year agreement expires.
The union announced via its official Facebook page.
"Members have delivered a strong mandate to their bargaining committee," read the post. "Your committee remains at the bargaining table, committed to securing a fair agreement for all members."
Talks between the two sides have been ongoing since the beginning of July.
The first one-year contract was ratified a year ago. It included a five per cent wage increase, pensions, short and long-term disability programs, workplace health and safety, and certified Unifor and Local 444 as the exclusive bargaining agent for employees at the facility.
Both sides were back at the bargaining table on Friday.
