Man charged after woman was doused in accelerant

Windsor police say a 40-year-old man is facing an attempted murder charge after an altercation on Wednesday evening.

It happened on Dougall Avenue near the E.C. Row Expressway. Officers responded to a report of a disturbance at around 7 p.m. They learned that a man and a woman, who knew each other, had gotten into an argument.

The argument became physical, and the man allegedly threatened to kill the woman and her cat. He then poured a chemical accelerant on her and was about to light it when the victim was able to get help from passersby.

The woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police arrested the man, who was still on scene.

He is charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, uttering threats to kill an animal, uttering threats to destroy property, and breach of probation.

The charges have not been proven in court.
