It's National Immunization Awareness Week, and the Windsor Essex County Health Unit is celebrating that 99 per cent of students across the region have up-to-date vaccination records.
"Vaccines remain one of the best tools in the prevention of disease," said Medical Officer of Health Dr Mehdi Aloosh. "I encourage everyone to speak with their health care providers about what vaccines they and their family members may be missing."
The theme of this year's National Immunization Awareness Week is "the time is now."
Health officials say it serves as a reminder for everyone to speak to their doctor about their immunization status.
"Through strong partnerships with school boards and healthcare providers, and ongoing outreach efforts by the WECHU, more than 99 per cent of students now have up-to-date records for the vaccines that are required for the Immunization of School Pupils Act and the vaccines offered in schools to Grade 7 students," said a release. "High vaccine rates benefit the whole community. Immunizations not only protect the individuals, but also help protect others, such as people who are unable to be vaccinated."
