Tolls go down at Ambassador Bridge

Crossing the border at the Ambassador Bridge will cost less as of Sunday.

The premier toll will be $5.50, down from $10.00, for all cars, buses, and motorcycles.

Those who have an E-ZPass or pay with a credit card will still be charged $10.00, while those who pay with Canadian cash will still pay $14.00.

Vehicles towing a trailer will still be charged $20.00 with a credit card or EZPass, or $14.00 if they pay with Canadian cash.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador Bridge lost its status in March as the busiest crossing between Canada and the U.S. for truck traffic. That distinction went to the Blue Water Bridge in Sarnia.

Last month, 172,552 trucks crossed over the Ambassador Bridge, while 180,724 crossed the border at the Blue Water Bridge.

Total traffic at the Ambassador Bridge still exceeded that at the Blue Water Bridge. So far this year, 1,226,888 vehicles crossed the bridge in Windsor, down 6.42 per cent, compared to 790,313 in Sarnia, where traffic fell 10.94 per cent as Canadians continue to avoid discretionary trips to the U.S.
