Rainy forecast prompts watershed statement from ERCA

A wet forecast has led the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) to issue a statement.

ERCA issued the statement on Monday afternoon, after forecasters called for significant rainfall starting late Tuesday night.

"Currently, forecasts predict that the region could experience between 20 and 40 millimetres of rainfall from [Monday night] through to Thursday morning," said ERCA Water Resources Engineer Tian Martin. "This amount of rainfall could create ponding and areas of standing water. This rain could also cause smaller watercourses to rise, and some could spill their banks into adjacent low-lying areas."

Residents are asked to stay clear of areas where water may rise suddenly.

The statement is in effect through noon on Thursday, but may be changed as conditions warrant.
