Tecumseh Fire and Rescue has welcomed the newest vehicle in its fleet.
Firefighters and members of Tecumseh Town Council held a "push-in" ceremony at the fire headquarters on Thursday to christen a new 100-foot aerial platform truck.
The vehicle, to be known as Truck 1, replaces a 70-foot aerial platform and has higher response capability for fires at medium and high-rise industrial buildings.
The Town began the process of acquiring the truck in 2022.
"We have planned for this vehicle considering the changing nature of buildings in our community," said Fire Chief Wade Bondy. "The result of the three-year planning and manufacturing process has been unveiled today, and we are grateful to enable an enhanced level of safety to our residents and businesses with this next-generation vehicle."
Features include a 100-foot ladder, a modernized truck with added safety features such as cameras on all sides and smoother aerial operation controls, and greatly improved steering and handling capabilities compared to the previous model.
The push-in ceremony on Thursday is a tradition that goes back to the days of hand-drawn and horse-drawn engines, which were pushed back to the firehouse after every call.
