A silent plea directed at a Windsor police cadet has led to charges against a 62-year-old man.
At about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a cadet appeared at a west-end home to serve court documents. A woman answered the door and mouthed the words "Help me" with a man standing behind her.
The cadet quickly guided the woman to safety and called for help from patrol officers.
When the patrol officers arrived, they soon learned that the man had come to the house the night before and was allowed to stay. In the morning, the man allegedly assaulted the woman and another resident, threatened them with a knife, and then confined them to a bedroom.
The victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A 62-year-old man is charged with two counts each of assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, uttering threats to cause bodily harm, and failure to comply with a release order.
The charges have not been proven in court.
