A 19-year-old man is facing numerous charges after alleged involvement in a case involving fraud and a violent assault on a senior.
The case began on October 2. Police say someone appeared at the victim’s home on Palms Crescent near Deerbrook Drive. He told the resident that a relative had been arrested and needed bail money, eventually convincing the resident to hand over $8,500.
The suspect returned the following day and demanded more money. When the victim refused to pay him further, the man forced his way into the home, physically attacked the resident, and then ran from the scene.
The victim suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Major Crimes Unit quickly linked the suspect to three additional fraud incidents. On October 2 and 3, a total of $30,500 was swindled from area seniors.
The suspect was tracked to Brantford and arrested on Thursday by Brantford police.
He was brought back to Windsor and formally charged with break-and-enter with intent, assault, assault with a weapon, wearing a disguise to commit an offence, and four counts of fraud over $5,000.
The charges have not been proven in court, and the investigation is ongoing.
