OPP officers to start wearing cameras

Ontario Provincial Police Officers in Essex County will soon all be equipped with body-worn cameras.

The tools are meant to improve evidence collection and enhance accountability and transparency.

The OPP says cameras will be worn on the front of the officer's vest and will be clearly visible to anyone interacting with the officer. A red light will flash on the front of the camera when it is recording.

Officers who have finished training will begin wearing the cameras immediately. Full deployment will follow as training continues.
