Windsor police say 31 people have been arrested after an enforcement initiative in a downtown neighbourhood.
Officers from the Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) Unit worked with the Windsor-Essex Community Housing Corporation on a blitz that took place from Thursday to Saturday on Glengarry Avenue between University Avenue and Wyandotte Street East.
The enforcement resulted in 31 people facing a total of 39 charges.
"Creating a safer environment in Glengarry is one of our top priorities," said Windsor Police Staff Sergeant Brian Caffarena. "We know this neighbourhood has faced ongoing challenges, and operations like this are part of our continued effort to support the community, reduce crime, and build a stronger sense of safety and trust."
The charges included 12 for failure to comply with a probation order, five for theft under $5,000, two for break-and-enter, two for possession of stolen property, and assorted single counts for other offences.
The three-day blitz is the latest in a series of enforcement initiatives that have focused on the Glengarry area, which was identified last year as a neighbourhood requiring assistance with improving safety and living conditions.
Efforts in the Glengarry neighbourhood will continue with Windsor police's nurse and crisis response teams, along with the service's health and human services partners.
