Man dead after being shot by police

A 58-year-old man has passed away after being shot by Windsor Police.

According to the SIU, on September 18, officers were called to the area of Stanley Street and Lillian Avenue after reports of a man wanting to harm himself.

Officers located the man in the backyard, and he pointed a gun in the direction of the police before going back inside the house.

The man exited the house again after the officers tried to negotiate with him.

Upon leaving the house, he pointed the gun at the police again, and three officers discharged their weapons.

The man was shot and taken to the hospital.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is continuing its investigation following the man's death on Saturday morning.

The SIU has assigned five investigators and three forensic investigators to the case and is urging anyone with information to contact the lead investigator online at https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
