Update: SIU called after shooting involving Windsor police

More information has been released by the Special Investigations Unit about a police shooting in Windsor.

The SIU reports police got a call around 2:45 p.m. on Thursday from a man who said he wanted to harm himself.

Officers responded to a home on Stanley Street near Lillian Avenue and found the man in the backyard.

The man was armed and fired a shot at the officers before fleeing back inside.

Officers tried to negotiate with the man, but when he stepped out of the house around 5:30 p.m., he was still armed with a gun.

That's when three police officers fired their guns, and the 58-year-old was struck.

Paramedics took the man to the hospital.

The SIU has taken over the investigation, assigning three investigators and three forensic investigators to the case.
