Kingsville OPP cleared after suspect breaks his ankle

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit has ruled there are no reasonable grounds to charge an Ontario Provincial Police officer after an arrest in Kingsville in April.

The officer watched as a prohibited driver drove into a parking lot and decided to arrest him.

During the arrest, the man broke free, and a struggle ensued.

More officers arrived on scene to help make the arrest, and the suspect was taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a severely fractured ankle.

SIU Director Joseph Martino stated that there was no evidence to suggest the officer had committed a criminal offence.

The SIU is called in whenever police are involved in an interaction with the public that results in injury, sexual assault, or death.
